The SOVEC Foundation has for mission to trigger the economical development of Africa by increasing the level of FDI to African SMEs via Venture Capital (VC) finance. Tirzah Consulting was contracted to provide project management services for the setting up of the VC vehicle.

DUTIES:
o Setting up VC vehicle and managing the day-to-day operations of the foundation,
o Writing the prospectus and responsibility for the approval process from the Dutch Financial Authorities (SOVEC intention was to target public placements)
o Development of valuation models, the investment criteria, score cards, and other internal reporting process
o Development of social impact evaluation reporting guidelines for portfolio companies
o Seeking, assessing and selecting local investment partners (LIP) for fund-in-fund and co-investments. Also developed the criteria upon which LIP should be assessed
o Building portfolio pipeline for co-investments by selecting and assessing companies in LIP pipeline
o Representing SOVEC on the African Venture Capital Association
o Proposing and controlling the VC’s budget and expenditures
o Strengthening and developing new contacts with the VC’s and the Foundation’s sponsors
o Strengthening and developing new contracts with the VC’s and the Foundation’s networks in the Netherlands and in Africa
o Development of African specific investment selection procedures
o Consulting on proposal for potential investors (how to “sell” Africa)
o Consulting on Africa specific governance issues
